Our Nature-Based Accelerator is ending on September 2nd with a much-anticipated Launch. At this event, the innovators will pitch their nature-based enterprise ideas. But who are they, and what are they working on? Read our short introduction blog series to whet your appetite. Next up is Elle Steele with Florys.

Florys: The Story

Elle Steele and her business partner Felicity Steers set up Florys to deliver landscape and green based responses to societal and environmental trauma. Their current pilot is of HALO (Healthworkers and Loved Ones) Gardens. These are circles of planting which enable social distancing – and in fact recognise and celebrate this response to the pandemic in a green space context. The green space allows communities to come together to heal and to flourish, turning a difficult situation into an opportunity. Florys also have plans for post-COVID green space projects and products.

Florys: Impact and Benefits

Through the purpose of a common goal and using nature as a healer the work of Florys will allow communities to come together and heal through taking ownership of a legacy space. This space  can be used immediately and in the long term for education, reflection, and many other purposes. The economic benefits are to increase the value to landscape in an inexpensive and sustainable way and create employment and volunteering opportunties. Environmentally, we will claim back vacant and disused land and increase biodiversity.

Florys: Collaboration and Connections

Florys aim to work with and support other Social Enterprise and charitable organisations wherever possible, and work with councils and any social places that will benefit from consultation and support in leading a green project. They want to involve the general public by offering home-based solutions and connecting involved individuals.

Florys: Why the Nature-Based Accelerator?

Florys absolutely believe in their product and joined the Accelerator to receive further direction and training as well as have an opportunity for networking. The purpose  is to help make the enterprise a great success..
