As a nurse with over 35 years’ experience in the NHS I have always been passionate about nursing. I am aware that what we do is unique. I acknowledge that we are privileged to have the relationships that we do with the people we care for and their families. This can be really rewarding and gives one a real sense of fulfilment.
I am also aware of how stressful nursing can be.
The changing nature of healthcare, the increase in the number of long term conditions, the increasing technological nature of health care and the stresses on the system are taking their toll on nurses. More registered nurses are leaving the profession than ever before. One in four student nurses drops out before finishing their degree. Conditions such as 12 hour shifts, lack of breaks, lack of flexible working and lack of resources contribute to stress and burnout in nurses.
Listen up! Is a Social Enterprise that aims to use the power of storytelling to help nurses share their experiences in a safe space with their peers. We aim to support those who care for others to care for themselves.
We believe that everyone has a story to tell and everyone deserves to be listened to.
Using creative methods our workshops will facilitate the sharing of stories and help nurses develop strategies to support their own well-being and resilience, and challenge the systems that perpetuate stress at work.
