Almost 50% of women believe they would be further in their career if they had more self-belief at the beginning of this journey.

Good Ideas 2020 has now concluded and after the Edinburgh Social Innovation Showcase, run online due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have 11 new social innovators working hard to make an impact. Let us introduce you to the Edinburgh Class and opportunities to work with them to deliver social change.

Each Class member has a unique request. A specific ask that, if fulfilled, will help them make a bigger impact in this next stage. Read on to find out if you can help Clara make change.

Clara Gomes, Founder of Purple

The future we face is unknown yet as we move through these uncertain times we know the importance of community and support. Good Ideas provides the structure, tools and space required  to turn ideas into impact, the rest is up to the hard working social innovators.

Among these people is Clara Gomes, the founder of Purple, a community for creative women.

A Lack of Self-Belief / The Problem

Almost 50% of women believe they would be further in their career if they had more self-belief at the beginning of this journey.

Clara began her journey from university by introducing herself as a ‘recent postgraduate’ in Digital Marketing but did not gain the opportunities she needed to progress her career. It was only  when she began to position herself as a marketing ‘professional’ and started to attend events to showcase her work that the opportunities began to emerge. It was all about confidence and positioning.

A Safe Space to Be Inspired / The Solution

So, how can we encourage women in the workplace? With female support!

“Purple is for women just like we all were once or, well, maybe like how we are now – unsure about the future, in need of some extra confidence, female support and career empowerment.”

Purple is for creative women with purpose. An online community to inform and inspire, where they can find support, career stories, opportunities, resources and a safe space to be inspired and go further!

“Purple is about encouraging you to position yourself as the great professional you are, about finding your potential and engaging with the creative industry.”

Women supporting each other on a mountain

Tools, Connections, Encouragement / The Experience

Clara joined Good Ideas because she had an idea, but didn’t have the knowledge or right connections to develop it. She wasn’t sure that her idea would be strong enough because she was at the very beginning stage and also because of a lack of confidence, which really shows how important her idea is.

“The program gave me much more than ways to make an idea happen, all the educational process, support and knowledge from Helen and Julie were incredibly helpful and essential for the development of Purple. I have gained so many things, starting with the tools and frameworks to plan my idea and knowledge to make it happen. Also, the connections I made at Good Ideas made the whole experience even more special. Our class had amazing people and we still support and incentive each other.”

Empowering Women / The Asks

So how can you support Clara in her mission?

You can empower women by sharing your business experience or career story. Purple is looking for guests to their weekly interviews and Clara encourages you to collaborate with the Purple community. Just a few minutes of your life to create an everlasting impact that will empower creative women out there. Whatever it is, Clara would love to have your voice part of Purple.
